You do not need to be so exact as to cause distress - within 1/2 inch will help you choose the correct size.

Important: Order up, as the reconstruction area is larger than the the damage.  We inspect every garment and confirm the repair size before sewing.  

Rather not measure? No problem.  Choose Send & Mend.  Just pick your repair, send us the garment and we will measure it for you.

Important Details:

• Use: A flexible measuring tape or ruler

• Lay it flat: Smooth the garment without stretching or pulling the fabric

• Measure the whole damaged area: Include fraying, thinning and worn fabric around the visible hole or tear

• Round up: If the measurement falls between sizes or inches, choose the next size up

• Several areas: Measure each separate damaged area on its own

HOLE VS. TEAR?  If material is missing, it's a hole and measure for Patch & Mend. If the fabric is split but still complete, that's a tear, measure for a Clean Tear Repair.

How to measure your repair:

Denim

Patch & Mend

• Measure: Measure the widest and tallest points of the entire damaged or weakened area

• Select: Choose the smallest size that contains both measurements: XS up to 1.5 x 1.5 in; S up to

2 x 2 in; M up to 3 x 3 in; L up to 4 x 4 in; XL up to 5 x 5 in

• Good to know: If either measurement is larger than a size limit, move up to the next size.

Choose Custom or Whole Enchilada, when the damage is larger than an XL, appears in several places or needs more than one technique.

Clean Tear Repair

• Measure: Measure the tear from one end to the other in a straight line.

• Select: Choose 1 through 6 inches and round up to the next whole inch.

• Good to know: If denim is missing, it's a hole: choose Patch & Mend instead.

The Whole Enchilada

• Measure: You do not need to size; we build the complete repair plan.

• Select: Choose this for three or more large, connected or garment-wide repair areas

• Good to know:  This is a soup to nuts solution for a garment that needs a full makeover.

Wovens

Patch & Mend

• Measure: Measure the widest and tallest points of the entire damaged or weakened area.

• Select: Choose the smallest size that contains both measurements: XS up to 1.5 x 1.5 in; S up to 2 x 2 in; M up to 3 x 3 in; L up to 4 x 4 in; XL up to 5 x 5 in.

• Good to know: Try not to stretch silk, linen or lightweight cotton while measuring.

Choose Custom when the damage is larger than an XL, appears in several places or you are wanting a special one of a kind repair.

Clean Tear Repair

• Measure: Measure the tear or open seam from one end to the other.

• Select: Choose 1 through 6 inches and round up to the next whole inch.

• Good to know: If fabric is missing, choose Patch & Mend instead.

Embroidered Leaf

• Measure: Measure the full length of the tear, stain or spots the leaves need to cover.

• Select: Choose 1 through 6 inches and round up to the next whole inch.

• Good to know: Leaf quantity, placement and thread treatment are selected separately.

Custom Woven Repair

• Measure:  You do not need to size; we build the complete repair plan

• Select: Choose Custom when the damage is over 6 inches, appears in several places or needs more than one technique.

• Good to know: Inspiration photos or frequently paired garments are helpful.

Sweaters & Knits

Embroidered Knit Repair

• Measure: Lay the knit flat without stretching it; measure each hole at its widest point and count the total holes

• Select: Provide the largest measurement for the total number of repair areas

• Good to know: Do not pull the opening wider to measure it.  Ideally, grab a safety pin and 'collect the stitches, so they do not 'run'.  Or just carefully package and we'll fix it up.

NOTE: For hand knit sweaters, please schedule a Custom repair.

Clean Trim Repair

• Measure: Measure along the damaged edge of the cuff, hem, neckline or waistband

• Select: Choose 1 through 6 inches and round up to the next whole inch

• Good to know: Measure the length of the worn edge, not the depth of the fraying

Custom Sweater Repair

• Measure: Measure each damaged area at its widest and tallest points, then count the total

number of areas

• Select: Choose Custom for damage over 6 inches, complex ribbing, collars, cuffs or several

repair areas

• Good to know: Inspiration photos or frequently paired garments are helpful.
